Pushback on Trump Administration Anti-diversity Efforts

The Trump Administration proposed a new government-wide certification implementing anti-diversity Executive Order 14173. It would require every organization receiving federal funding to sign certifications tied to anti-diversity, immigration, and anti-terrorism provisions under penalty of federal law.

Why does it matter?

The language in the proposal is vague and undefined, which means any group receiving federal funding could be accused of violating the False Claims Act based on shifting interpretations. This increased legal liability puts groups’ funding and missions at risk.

Who does it affect?

The changes would apply to all entities receiving federal financial support, including grants, cooperative agreements, and financial assistance such as loans, insurance, and direct appropriations. This affects nonprofits, universities, cities, and state agencies. Deadline for public comment is March 30, 2026.
